I.D.C. STAFF INSTRUCTOR
The PADI Staff Instructor course qualifies the PADI professional to become involved in the training of PADI Instructors and as such is an extremely gratifying experience. It is also one of the quickest and easiest routes towards becoming a PADI Master Instructor.
The PADI Staff Instructor course enables you to:
- Independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors.
- Conduct specific IDC/IOC training segments under the direct supervision of a PADI Course Director.
- Evaluate and critique IDC/IOC candidate academic, confined water and open water presentations.
- Provide counselling and remedial training for IDC/IOC and IDC Staff Instructor candidates.
- Assist with training during instructor-level continuing education programs, such as PADI Specialty Instructor Training courses.
- Observe the orientation and closing sessions of a PADI Instructor Examination.
How to prepare for the course
- Book early to avoid disappointment: 20% to secure a place and balance 21 days before course date.
- Obtain all required course materials. Order directly from PADI or through Deep Sea Divers Den.
- Undergo Medical Examination to Australian Standard as 4005.1
- Ensure you meet Administrative Requirements as listed to the right.
- Revise the Diving Knowledge Workbook in conjunction with the Encyclopaedia for theoretical preparation. [You will be subjected to five theory exams of twenty questions each in the areas of Physics; Physiology; Equipment; General Skills and Environment; Recreational Dive Planner]
- Practice all PADI Open Water Diver Course skills to demonstration quality.[ You will undergo a full PADI Skill Evaluation Circuit as part of the course]
- Review PADI Standards and ensure your PADI Instructor Manual is up to date with all the relevant changes as advised through the quarterly Training Bulletins. [ You will sit an open-book Standards Exam during the first two days of the Course].
- Prepare an Academic microteaching presentation (IDC-style) of a topic of your choice (no "Equipment" MLG's allowed). This presentation will be evaluated by the Course Director (but not in front of IDC Candidates).
- Prepare a Confined Water presentation (IDC-style) of a skill of your choice. This presentation will be evaluated by the Course Director (but not in front of IDC Candidates).
Required Equipment
- Mask, fins and snorkel
- Full set of SCUBA equipment, including:
- B.C.D
- regulator with alternate air source and submersible pressure gauge
- wetsuit
- underwater timing device
- depth gauge
- knife, compass
- emergency signalling devices (whistle and safety sausage)
- weightbelt
- Underwater slate(s) and pencils
Tanks, weights and air fills will be provided by us at no extra charge.
