What to Expect as a First-Time Diver

Step 1: Pre-Dive Preparation
  • Orientation Session: Meet your instructor and fellow divers, and go over the schedule and goals for your course.
  • Equipment Familiarisation: Get hands-on experience with your gear in a relaxed, dry setting. Learn how each piece works and how it contributes to your safety underwater.
  • Comfort Building: Practise breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises to help manage pre-dive anxiety.

Step 2: Pool Training Sessions
  • Skill Development: Learn basic skills like mask clearing, buoyancy control, and regulator recovery in a controlled pool environment.
  • One-on-One Attention: Our instructors work closely with each diver to ensure they feel comfortable and competent.

Step 3: Open Water Certification
  • Guided Dives: Your first dives will take place in calm, shallow waters, with an instructor by your side every step of the way.
  • Building Confidence: Practise and apply your pool-learned skills in a real-world environment, gradually gaining independence.

Tips for Nervous New Divers

  1. Take It Slow: Do not rush your learning process. It is okay to ask questions or repeat a skill until you feel confident.

  2. Focus on Breathing: Slow, deep breaths can help calm your nerves and improve your air consumption underwater.

  3. Communicate Your Feelings: Let your instructor know if you feel anxious or uncertain. They are here to support you.

  4. Practice Makes Perfect: Spend extra time practicing key skills like buoyancy control to build muscle memory.

  5. Embrace the Group: Connecting with fellow divers can create a supportive environment and make the experience more enjoyable.

  6. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun!

“We enjoyed our time diving with Divers Den! Everybody was so attentive, friendly, and helpful during our time spent with them. Lut Mustafah, Beginner Diver

Great place for first timers
Went here with a group of 4 for the discover scuba diving program, you do not need to know how to swim but must be comfortable in water. Our instructor Milan was super accommodating, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Throughout the lesson our instructor’s enthusiasm was visible as he made it fun for us while still getting all the points through. During the dive he was super accommodating and made sure each of us was safe but still enjoying. We would all love to go again to this same location for sure.”
Muhammad A, Non-Swimmer

“I am a non-swimmer with a general phobia of water but decided to sign up for the scuba and snorkelling anyway.
Sebastian made me feel extremely comfortable and gently encouraged me to put my head under the water. I finally have a snorkelling experience that I can remember fondly. Scuba instructor Caitlin was also extremely patient and encouraging with all the panic I introduced in the water. Unfortunately, I was not able to successfully finish scuba, but the instructors are amazing if you have courage.”
— Revathi P, Non-Swimmer
